Players choose to play as one of the agents, each depicted with a health bar. The health bar decreases any time the player is hit or injured by an enemy. Players can regain health by successfully completing chapters or using first aid kits found throughout the game.
In addition to the objective of terminating zombies, players also have opportunities to rescue hostages throughout the game. Successfully rescuing these hostages may reward players with bonus points or health benefits.
The original House of the Dead was a massive hit when it hit arcades in the mid to late 90s. The game was eventually ported to the Sega Saturn and the PC and while it may not be as impressive as the games that would follow. I do feel that it is a very important game in video game history as this is a franchise that is still going to this day.
