For example, if I press the right-arrow key five times, it takes Word a few seconds for the cursor to get there. This is particularly annoying if I want to say, highlight a sentence using arrow keys alone, as it takes Word much longer than usual to accurately move the cursor.

1. Make sure caret browsing is turned off Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Untick "Always use cursor keys to navigate within pages". my goodness! I feel so foolish and that such a simple solution works so perfectly… <Now to figure out how it got set in the first place>. you hit F7 and then clicked yes on accident.
