Dec 15, 2020 · 13 December 2020 marked the 39th anniversary of the imposition of martial law in Poland. In such a reality, in the streets of Łódź, where ZOMO (Motorised Reserves of the Citizens’ Militia) scattered the demonstrators, Waldemar Dziki filmed his excellent debut – “Postcards from a Journey” – which constitutes one of the best Polish films about the Holocaust, ghetto and its imminent end.
Waldemar Dziki directs a 78 minute war drama, about an aging Jewish man caught up in Poland during the Nazi occupation. We never hear the words holocaust, pogrom, round-up etcetera in this film. Furthermore we aren't shown much either. We're sort of thrown into this period in Poland and seeing random scenes of man's life under the fascist days.

About the film. Waldemar Dziki adapted the Czech novel, which was a great success in Europe and had been filmed in Czechoslovakia. It is a Kafkaesque treatise on human dignity in the face of imminent death, and at the same time a symbol of the extermination of the Jewish people.
