Anson is a largely-rural area with 536 square miles. Located in the south-central region of North Carolina, the county is bordered by Richmond, Stanly, and Union counties, and Chesterfield County, SC. The county seat is Wadesboro. Ansonville was first settled in 1844. The settlement became Ansonville in 1857 and was incorporated in 1885.

Today Anson County remains largely rural with 25,000 inhabitants. The earliest Census available is the 1790 Federal Census which shows 789 families representing 393 different surnames. Early militia rolls and land plats date back to 1750 however and shows many earlier settlers.
