Proverbs 26:2 says that the "curse causeless does not come." God has a cause, a reason, for the calamities He causes or allows. It is safe to say that the basic reason for a disaster is sin —somewhere. But we need to be careful about deciding which sin or whose sin was the cause.
For a people who know God, calamity is not haphazard! God allows it to happen to inspire repentance and revival of true worship. Did the nation take the September 11 attacks as warnings to return to God, truth, and right living?

Aug 18, 2007 · The model of God bringing judgment through calamity is Old Testament, and even in those cases there was teaching before the calamity. Something like the bridge collapse doesn’t fit even the OT pattern because there was not ample warning, teaching, and time for repentance before the tragedy.
