Lynch’s failed tv pilot is definitely art and Lynchian with a capital ‘L’. Ultimately, Mulholland Drive is an actress’s movie no matter how you look at it

  5. The actual story is that the first half of the movie was a pilot for a tv show that didn’t get picked up. David Lynch had negotiated a contract that allowed him to finish it as a film if the network passed (which they did). The second half of the movie was what he filmed without attempting to make it all connect.
