Richfield is a village in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,729 at the 2020 census. It is located midway between Akron and Cleveland and is part of the Akron metropolitan area.
George Lee and his family arrived from Pennsylvania and originally resided in Boston Twp. in 1840 but then soon departed to Williams County, Ohio and finally settled in Cass Co., Michigan; however, the family always kept ties with the town of Richfield.
The Richfield Historical Society was founded in 1955 as an outgrowth of the great interest of visitors at the Richfield Reunion. Over the years, meetings such as quilt shows, doll shows, and tool shows have generated great interest.
This marks the site of the first Sikh Gurdwara in the state Sikh Gurdwaraof Ohio. Sikhs began to arrive in Ohio after India's freedom from British rule in 1947. They came for advanced education at universities in the state.
Although the first settlers, Pliny Lathrop, Jacob Wolfinger and David Hendrickson arrived in 1834, “Richfield Township” was not actually organized and named until 1839. The presiding pioneers choose the name “Richfield” because of the rich nature of the soil, some of the richest in Lucas County.
We are a community that was founded in 1809 by Lancelot Mayes. It is understood from history and believed by our Historical Society that our community's name came from a weed that grew rich in our fields.

While living in Richfield, John Brown attended the Congregational Church of Richfield, to which the Oviatt's belonged. The church, the third church established in the Western Reserve, was fully committed to the Abolitionist cause.
