Mar 21, 2014 · Scheduled passenger service to Newport ended in 1938. Excursion and charter trains, troop trains, and freight ran on the Newport line after that. In 1978 local train fans formed the National Railroad Museum and Foundation and began running tour trains on the historic rail line, using the name Old Colony & Newport Railway.
