In fact, it’s not the only famous grave in Heptonstall, as the leader of the infamous Cragg Vale Coiners was also buried in the village.

As a young boy, he loved hunting and fishing with his elder brother Gerald and his early poetry, such as The Hawk in the Rain (1957), contains powerful imagery of the natural world.
Hughes and Plath moved from London to Devon in 1961, and in January 1962 their son, Nicholas, was born. Jun 19, 2016 · Hughes was born in Mytholmroyd, his birth registered in Hebden. Plath is buried on the other side of the Calder Valley, at Heptonstall. Bernard Ingham once described Hebden as ‘the lesbian Capital of Great Britain’; in 2001 he lamented the influx of ‘trendies, yuppies and weirdos’.
