The ACA Advocacy Competencies describe necessary counselor skills, knowledge, and behavior that can be implemented to address systemic barriers and issues facing students, clients, client groups or whole populations (hereafter, clients and client groups is inclusive of students and student groups).
Counselors need to adopt an ongoing commitment to developing skills and endorsing practices that assist clients in receiving and experiencing the best possible care. Exhibit 2-6 lists counselor competencies endorsed by ACA for culturally appropriate intervention strategies.
