With Revit 2021.1 and later versions, you no longer need to download all the family content locally. Instead, you can use the Load Autodesk Familycommand to load default library families from the cloud on demand. If you preferred to keep a local copy of the content, you can still download the library.

Jul 10, 2018 · When you "model in place" in Revit (2017 - 2021 anyway), the menu tab you click is Architecture --> Components, where you can either add an existing one, or create one in-place. Everything I read about "modelling in place" seems to use the three terms interchangeably, but really seems to be referring to modelling components (per the GUI).

Revit 2020 and earlier versions: Revit content (templates and families) associated with the annual release are installed by default with the program (to the C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT <Version> folder).
