The main categories of nurse leaders’ ethical competency were labelled as empathetic interactions, ethical behaviour, and exalted manners (Barkhordari‐Sharifabad et al., 2016). Among research nurses, ethical competence was seen as character building, related to virtues such as being honest, empathic, and loyal to patients.
