Aug 7, 2023 · Becuase when you hold a item that gives light (bv: torch, glowstone, campfire) you will have light! If the block has a light lvl from 12 than if you hold it, it will be a light lvl from 12 to! Block light sources work for any player (or mob) carrying them. They also work if thrown on the ground. Basically it's a form of dynamic lighting.

A single torch lights up a 27 x 27 Diamond. (13 blocks in every direction) (Bottom line) For lighting single line tunnels the ideal is 26 blocks between each torch. This wont work for lighting a large flat area however because the very center will be just dark enough for spawning to occur.
