    • 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) Director: Dan Trachtenberg. The great thing about this sequel to the impressively dumb Cloverfield is that you don’t have to even see the first film to enjoy this.
    • Alien (1979) Director: Ridley Scott. Alien has the distinction of being one of the most important science fiction movies ever made. If you haven’t seen the movie before, you’ve probably heard it talked up in such terms.
    • Altered States (1980) Director: Ken Russell. A lot of the work of Ken Russell will contain at least two things: Wild creativity in the creation of disturbing images, with a deep dive into the consequences of people who go dangerously too far in one way or another.
    • Event Horizon (1997) Director: Paul W.S. Anderson. When a rescue vessel is sent to meet with a starship that has recently been found after a long disappearance, the best kind of horror movie bedlam breaks out.

    • Upgrade (2018) Available on Fubo TV. Before putting his own spin on The Invisible Man, writer and director Leigh Whannell stepped from the world of horror into science-fiction for a gleefully gory revenge story about a man who gives control of his body over to an advanced AI program that can turn him into an unstoppable killing machine.
    • Cube (1997) Available on Pluto TV, IMDb TV, and Fubo TV. Though it ostensibly appears to be a body horror movie based around characters being horribly killed by the sadistic traps in a highly advanced maze, Cube is a movie predominantly driven forward by its conversations and its dissection of various attitudes and personality types within society.
    • Coherence (2013) Available on Tubi, Pluto TV, and Crackle. Dinner parties make great settings for horror movies as it's a potentially uncomfortable situation that just about everybody has some experience with, bringing together an ideally interesting group of people with interpersonal dynamics that can shoot off in all kinds of directions.
    • Predator (1987) Available on Peacock. Though veritably dripping in machismo action, Predator is a much smarter science-fiction movie than it's given credit for and has some similarly underrated stalking horror amongst the bloodier moments.
    • Alien. Trapped in space with an apex predator hunting down and killing all the members aboard the USCSS Nostromo, Alien uses perfect pacing, unrelenting dread, and one of the most haunting and legendary alien creatures to give audiences an experience they won't ever forget.
    • Aliens. Drastically different than its 1979 predecessor, Aliens opts to become more of an action sci-fi horror film, rather than a slow-burning horror film with sci-fi elements, and while such a drastic change could have been disastrous, in the hands of director James Cameron, it was sensational.
    • The Thing. Not only one of the greatest science fiction horror films ever created, but arguably one of the best films of all time, John Carpenter's The Thing is a masterclass in suspense, dread, terror, and unease as a group of scientists are stranded in Antarctica while a monstrous Alien who can disguise itself as one of them is on the loose.
    • Predator. With so many beloved lines, standout performances from Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the introduction of one of the most legendary aliens in the history of cinema, Predator hit all the right buttons to become one of the premier action sci-fi horror masterpieces.
