Aug 17, 2020 · I have put together a selection of 13 Superman stories you should read, many of which achieve that goal, and are seen as some of the very best. Most of these stories are fan favourites and critically acclaimed and explore different interpretations and tones of the Man of Steel while staying true to his core. Enjoy!
- Superman: The Movie (1978) Of course, if you’ve gotten this far, you know that none of the sequels, reboots, re-envisionings, or remakes ever approached the promise inherent in this movie.
- Man of Steel (2013) Please put away your pitchforks and hear me out. Yes, it’s a fairly joyless affair, and in its desperate attempt to prove that it’s not its predecessor (the glacially paced and action-free Superman Returns) it sacrifices Superman’s optimistic heart on the altar of almost gleeful, consequence-free violence.
- Superman II (1980) To quote Valerie Perrine’s Eve Teschmacher in Superman: The Movie, “ummm…I know I’m gonna get rapped in the mouth for this,” but Superman II is not the best Superman movie.

- Superman: Last Son Of Krypton Is The Best Zod Story. General Zod is one of Superman's strongest villains and among the most well known, having starred in two different Superman films.
- Kingdom Come Is A Timeless Superman Story. Kingdom Come, by writer Mark Waid and artist Alex Ross, may be about the entire DC Universe's future, but it's a Superman story at heart.
- Superman: Secret Identity Is An Amazing Alternate Superman Story. Superman lends himself well to alternate universe tales. There great ones out there, but Superman: Secret Identity, by writer Kurt Busiek and artist Stuart Immonen, is unique.
