Our adult art and design courses allow you to produce work based on your personal research, goals, and interests, while providing professional development, skill-building, and networking opportunities for both beginners and experienced artists.
- Drawing. In the Drawing Certificate, students develop the skills and conceptual foundation necessary to cultivate their art practice, drawing inspiration and context from SAIC’s many resources, including the Art Institute of Chicago, an encyclopedic museum that encompasses more than 5,000 years of creative expression from cultures around the world.
- Fashion. The Fashion Certificate is designed for students interested in artistic and professional training in fashion. Participants hone the technical skills necessary to realize their creative vision as they develop a portfolio of work that can be used for a variety of purposes, including preparation for further study.
- Graphic Design. The Graphic Design Certificate is designed for students with an interest in exploring graphic design with an emphasis on print media. Participants employ analog and digital processes and may elect to work across disciplines as they develop a portfolio of work that represents their personal voice and demonstrates the technical, critical, and analytical skills required of the field.
- Interior Design. SAIC’s non-credit Interior Design Certificate Program equips students with knowledge and skills in the constantly evolving field of interior design.

Adult Continuing Education offers 1-Weeklong and Weekend Intensives that provide artists, designers, and travelers opportunities to advance their practice in one of the most exciting and diverse cities in the world: Chicago.
- Art Classes at The Evanston Art Center. Explore your creative side and meet other budding artists in one of the many art classes offered at The Evanston Art Center, Chicago’s largest community art education center.
- Floral Design Sampler Course at the American School of Flower Design. Founded by floral designer Michael Gaffney, the American School of Flower Design teaches classes in 14 cities around the country.
- A Sewing Class at Sew Anastasia. Sewing is a very practical skill to learn, allowing you to save money on clothing repairs and alterations (or even on new clothes if you are feeling particularly adventurous).
- Any Jewelry Class. Fine jewelry can complement any ensemble, work as a wonderful gift or make you a little money on the side at craft shows or on a platform like Etsy.
