Nov 3, 2023 · This article will discuss the layers of the heart (the epicardium, the myocardium and the endocardium) and any clinical relations pertaining to them. In the same way that vehicles have their fuel pumps, our body has the heart.

- Epicardium. Epicardium (epi-cardium) is the outer layer of the heart wall. It is also known as visceral pericardium as it forms the inner layer of the pericardium.
- Myocardium. Myocardium (myo-cardium) is the middle layer of the heart wall. It is composed of cardiac muscle fibers, which enable heart contractions. The myocardium is the thickest layer of the heart wall, with its thickness varying in different parts of the heart.
- Endocardium. Endocardium (endo-cardium) is the thin inner layer of the heart wall. This layer lines the inner heart chambers, covers heart valves, and is continuous with the endothelium of large blood vessels.
Aug 4, 2023 · Layers of the Heart. There are three layers of the heart. They are: Epicardium (Outermost Layer), Myocardium (Middle Layer) and Endocardium (Innermost Layer).
The heart wall is comprised of three layers, the epicardium (outer), myocardium (middle), and endocardium (inner). These tissue layers are highly specialized and perform different functions. During ventricular contraction, the wave of depolarization from the SA and AV nodes moves from within the endocardial wall through the myocardial layer to ...
Oct 31, 2024 · The heart consists of several layers of a tough muscular wall, the myocardium. A thin layer of tissue , the pericardium , covers the outside, and another layer, the endocardium , lines the inside. The heart cavity is divided down the middle into a right and a left heart, which in turn are subdivided into two chambers .

Jan 26, 2024 · Your heart walls are the muscles that contract (squeeze) and relax to send blood throughout your body. A layer of muscular tissue called the septum divides your heart walls into the left and right sides. Your heart walls have three layers: Endocardium: Inner layer. Myocardium: Muscular middle layer. Epicardium: Protective outer layer.
