Oct 4, 2023 · Every heart is made of two pumps: the right receives blood and pumps it to your lungs, while the left receives blood from the lungs and pumps it into the bloodstream. If you want to make a heart model and see this process in action, it's pretty easy!

May 26, 2024 · In this simple model the first bottle is the atrium of the heart, the second bottle is the ventricle, and the third bottle represents either the lungs or body. Our fingers function as the valves of the heart. To make your human heart models work, squeeze the middle bottle only.
Jan 14, 2020 · Each side of the heart has an entry chamber ( atrium ) and an exit chamber ( ventricle ). These pump one after the other to keep the blood flowing around. Valves stop blood flowing backwards. When the ventricle contracts the atriums exit valve closes so blood cannot fall back into it.
- The Heart Wall Is Composed of Three Layers. The muscular wall of the heart has three layers. The outermost layer is the epicardium (or visceral pericardium).
- The Atria Are the Heart’s Entryways for Blood. The left atrium and right atrium are the two upper chambers of the heart. The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs.
- Each Heart Beat Is a Squeeze of Two Chambers Called Ventricles. The ventricles are the two lower chambers of the heart. Blood empties into each ventricle from the atrium above, and then shoots out to where it needs to go.
- The Valves Are Like Doors to the Chambers of the Heart. Four valves regulate and support the flow of blood through and out of the heart. The blood can only flow one way—like a car that must always be kept in drive.
Around 90% of plasma is made of water, although the exact percentage varies depending upon the hydration levels of the individual. The proteins within plasma include antibodies and albumins. Antibodies are part of the immune system and bind to antigens on the surface of pathogens that infect the body.
