    One of the best State Parks. A little more than an hour north of Houston, Texas, Galveston Island State Park is a gem of a park. This 2000+ acre park opened in 1975 and has 2 sides- Bay side and Beach side. The Bay side has the lagoons and marshes, 20 RV sites, 10 tent sites, observation deck, 2 rent houses, and is great for fishing or kayaking.
