I really enjoyed visiting the DuSable Museum. It's located on the University of Chicago campus and there is plenty of parking near the museum. The museum staff was great, friendly, and helpful. There is a lot of information on African American soldiers and the various ways in which they contributed to the war efforts.

The DuSable Museum is proud of its diverse holdings that number more than 15,000 pieces and include paintings, sculpture, print works and historical memorabilia. DuSable Museum is open Tues-Sat10am-5pm; Sunday 12pm-5pm; closed Mondays between June 1 and Jan 2 (except forschool holidays). Closed on Easter, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmasand New Year’s Day.
Dusable Musuem has a lot of squarefootage, but it probably won’t take an entire day to enjoy. That means visitorshave time for a nice lunch at a nearby restaurant (Try Eleven City Diner orMedici on 57th) and then take a short 5-minute walk over to view the126-foot Fountain of Timesculptureby Lorado Taft.
