The OSM Tasking Manager has three user access levels: User - The most basic level. The user is able to login to TM2 and use its functionality to find and select a mapping project and work on it. This level of usage is fully described in The OSM Tasking Manager guide within LearnOSM.

This CLI tool can be thought of as the swiss army knife for OSM data as it can perform diffs, extracts and filters among other things. Using this tool for extracts can be very useful when filtering large OSM datasets.
Go to www.openstreetmap.org, zoom in closely to your area, and browse around the map for a while. Use the ‘?’ tool on the right of the screen, then click on a feature on the map, to inspect the data underlying the map. Choose a feature from the ‘Nearby features’ list. Look at the ‘tags’ (attributes) for the feature.

Since the data is free and open, there are much less restrictions to obtaining and using the data. The only condition of using OSM data is proper attribution to OSM contributors.
