A study of this verse reveals that God created time, space, and matter on the first day of Creation Week. No one of these can have a meaningful existence without the others.
One thing is clear: God existed in perfect community as Father, Son, and Spirit from eternity past. The Bible begins with the words, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). May 13, 2005 · Notice, Jesus did not say “before Abraham was born, I was.” It is no accident that he said “I AM.” Jesus claims here, as did God in Exodus 3 that he is not defined by time. Jesus is saying that he pre-existed all of creation. When God created the universe, he also created time itself. There was no time outside of God’s creation.

The whole reason for Jesus’ incarnation, ministry, and death was to save a people for Himself. He wants His people to be with Him, and that must be the Father’s will too, because it is the Father who gave them to Him (John 10:27–30).
