The author of the book of Ecclesiastes wrote: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born and a time to … heal” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-3 ESV). What Qoheleth did not say is that between the time to be born and the time to heal, there is a time to be sick.
illness is a real problem that cannot be swept under the rug. As God gave us doctors to help us with heart attacks, back surgeries, and diabetes, he also gave us doctors to help us with mental illness. Of course God can heal somebody immediately of any disease or illness, but oftentimes he uses doctors, medi-cine, and other tools to help.

We see this biblical truth illustrated through the persecuted church. After hearing their testimonies, few would deny that suffering produces beauty and maturity of spirit.
