Second, you lose your ability to love others. One of the great revelations of the Scripture is that the reason we love others is because we have first been loved ourselves. When we lose that consciousness of the wonder of Jesus' love we also lose our awareness of others and find our love for them fading.
- You Delight in Someone Else More Than You Delight in The Lord.
- Your Thoughts in Leisure Moments Do Not Reflect Upon The Lord.
- You Cease to Treat Every Christian as You Would Treat The Lord.
- You Strive For The Acclaim of This World Rather Than The Approval of The Lord.
- You Allow Fears to Keep You from Making Christ Or His Words known.
- You Refuse to Give Up An Activity That You Know Offends A Weaker Brother.
- You Become Complacent to Sinful Conditions Around you.
- You Are Unwilling to Forgive Those Who Offend you.
Your love for God should be foremost in your heart, exceeding the bond of any other relationship. Jesus identified this truth as the greatest of all commandments: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment” (Mark 12:30). As we delight i...
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy . . . mind” (Mark 12:30). The things that captivate your thoughts in your free time reveal much about the priorities of your heart. The Apostle Paul instructed believers regarding their thought life: “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever thing...
Jesus said, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34). “Love one another” is not a suggestion; it is a command that we are enabled to fulfill by the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Do you find that you are quick to judge and condemn other believers? Consider ...
Our Savior chose for a time to give up the glory of Heaven, to humble Himself as a man, and to suffer persecution and die a cruel crucifixion death for you. While He was on the earth, Satan tempted Him by offering Him all the kingdoms of the earth—if Christ would worship him. (See Luke 4:5–7.) Jesus refused because of His overriding devotion to God...
If your faithfulness to God depends on the reactions of those around you, you are serving men instead of serving God. Jesus faced misunderstandings and rejection because of His obedience to God, and you will face similar situations. Jesus’ obedience to God aggravated many people, including the religious leaders of His community. “Remember the word ...
In every generation, Christians seek God’s will concerning discretionary activities. God has given every believer freedom, but each person must live by his conscience. (See Romans 14:5.) At the same time, we are to honor one another. “I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any ...
Jesus warned that “because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold” (Matthew 24:12). Witnessing the sinfulness of the world around you should motivate you to follow after God with even greater determination. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; Whom re...
“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar” (I John 4:20). Holding a grudge against another person indicates that you have lost sight of the greatness of God’s forgiveness of your sin and your need for His grace. (See Matthew 18:21–35). Refusing to forgive your offenders is disobedience to God and a sign you have lost your “fir...
Apr 5, 2010 · In Revelations 2:4, Jesus accuses the Ephesian church of forsaking their first love. Sometimes this verse is used by preachers and songwriters to promote our love for God. “Remember your first love. Remember how much you loved Jesus at the beginning and go back to that. Love him like you used to.” I totally don’t get that.
Jan 8, 2018 · In Ephesians, you explained that the church "lost their first love" by not serving Christ by their deeds, but in your Revelation study, you said the church left their first love by trading the Gospel for social works. Please explain these differences in your teaching.
Mar 2, 2019 · In Colossians 3:12, we are instructed to be clothed in compassion, kindness, gentleness, and patience. This connects to the guideline of love that we are called to follow in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Compassion in the Greek for this verse is agapāo, which means to love with a strong affection.
