Oct 13, 2020 · The Black Forest Trail has a reputation for being difficult. A sign kiosk marks the start of the trail at a bridge crossing Slate Run. This also marks the low elevation of the trail at 765'. Almost immediately, the trail begins a stiff climb. Over the next 2.5 miles, the trail climbs to over 2,000' in elevation.
