  1. Aug 31, 2023 · Here’s how guys text when they like you — if the man you’re seeing sends these kinds of messages, it’s probably good news. They text first thing in the morning. Guys don’t send “good morning” texts unless they really like you. Fact. Waking up to a text like this means you were one of the first things he thought of when he opened his eyes and he wants you to know it.

    • We text back right away. If we like you, we don’t want to keep you waiting. Most of the time, guys aren’t overly concerned about sitting by our phone so we can text back right away, but when we like you, we’re eager to hear from you and excited to text back.
    • We text you first. If a guy is really into you, he may not even wait for you to text him. To be fair, you shouldn’t always expect a guy to text you first, but if he jumpstarts the text convo, it’s a good sign that he likes you.
    • Our texts get longer. In general, most guys aren’t all that interested in sending long texts. We keep things short and to the point. However, when a guy deviates from this pattern, it’s usually a sign that we’re feeling you.
    • We actually use emojis. According to Texting 101, most guys hate emojis. Sure, there may be a few exceptions, but for the most part, we’re not down with using them and don’t particularly enjoy getting them unless it’s a smiley face.

He’s letting you know you’re on his mind.

Whether that’s with a casual “Hello” or asking what you’re up to, a guy who’s comfortable texting you first definitely likes you, even if it’s just as a friend. That being said, it’s important to reciprocate if you’re interested in him; being the one to text first sometimes can reassure him that you like talking with him.

“Hi there! Heard you moved to Houston. How are you liking it?”

“Hey Maddie! I had a great time last night. Hope we can hang again!”

If he’s reaching out to you every day, he likes you.

This could particularly be the case if you work together, go to school together, or are in the same friend group and see each other rather frequently to begin with.

“I know I saw you at Mike’s last night, but I feel like we didn’t get to catch up!”

“Missed you in class today! Is everything okay?”

Is he texting you with random questions?

If so, he might just be coming up with excuses to start a conversation with you. While he might genuinely need something if he sends an unprompted text, he’s probably looking for a casual starting point for a longer conversation.

“Hey, did you take pre-calc last year? Any chance I could borrow your notes?”

“Hi! My mom wanted me to ask if your parents need a new lawnmower? We’re selling ours.”

He’s reaching beyond just asking what you’re up to.

A guy will show his interest by asking questions about your hobbies, interests, friends, and family among other things. You can show him you’re equally interested by asking similar questions about him.

    “What’s your all-time favorite food?”

“My little brother can be so annoying. Do you get along with your siblings?”

He’s getting playful when he’s adding emojis to his texts.

It’s not common to use emojis in formal conversation, so if a guy is sending them to you, he’s feeling comfortable around you.

“Congrats on the license 🥳! I better stay off the roads 🏎️”

“I’m not feeling too hot about this exam tomorrow 😬”

Faster responses to your texts means he’s excited to talk to you.

While some people may try to play it cool by waiting longer to respond, if it only takes a few minutes for him to get back to you, he’s probably interested.

Even if it feels like you’ve reached a dead end, he keeps texting.

A guy may draw out a conversation or a joke even when it feels like it should have reached a natural end in order to keep talking to you, and if the conversation has really gone stale, he might introduce a new topic.

“Anyways, do you have any plans this weekend?”

“I’m glad we’re on the same page. Now, are you a dog person or a cat person?”

He won’t leave you on read.

Instead of not responding or waiting until later to say that he’s busy, a guy will let you know if he can’t text. It shows that he wants to keep talking but needs to take a short break before getting back to you.

“Hey! Can’t talk right now, I’m driving.”

“About to board my flight! I’ll text you when I land.”

If he’s opening up with you in his texts, he wants you to get to know him.

As much as he might ask about you, he’ll also want to feel free to share more about his interests so you can learn more about him and find common interests.

“I’ve never told anyone this, but I’m terrified of spiders.”

“My favorite movie is Trolls 🙈lol please don’t tell anyone!”

    • When he randomly texts you out of nowhere after disappearing to say something meaningless. What he means: He wants attention. Some men thrive on attention from women and the best way to do that is to send something that is not too deep but still elicits a response.
    • When you respond to his text but he doesn’t reply even though he initiated the conversation. What he means: He just wants to know if you still care, he is not interested in starting things up again, he wants to know that he still has you as an option.
    • When he texts you all the time but never plans to meet up. What he means: He likes you just enough but he sees no chemistry between you two. He doesn’t see a future with you but he likes your conversations and maybe enjoys flirting with you, but that’s all it’s going to be.
    • When he goes cold after a few good dates. What he means: You are not the only one he is seeing, or you could be the one he dated while he was on a break with his girlfriend.
    • You’re a priority. If your man is constantly texting you, then you are definitely a priority in his life. He won’t text you if you’re not in his daily life.
    • He misses you. When men miss you, they tend to be a little more affectionate . . . which usually means more text messages from them. This is especially true if you aren’t together a lot.
    • He wants to keep in touch. Perhaps you’re just getting to know one another, or if you’re dating he’s texting you constantly because that is just the most convenient way for you to keep in communication.
    • He likes you. This one is pretty obvious. If a guy is spending much of his time texting you, then it’s safe to say he likes spending time with you and is hoping to spend more of it with you.
