Let’s look to the inspiring example of St. Joseph, patron saint of fathers, workers and the universal Church, for his obedience, humility, selflessness, courage, and the love he ...

    • Encounter with God the Father: One can’t give what he doesn’t have. Many of us have been blessed with great fathers growing up (I include myself in this category) but others haven’t.
    • Conversion: A good father must be a converted man, or better yet, a man growing daily in conversion. Any man that abandons his efforts to live a Christian life, who doesn’t allow the encounter with God the Father to transform him, simultaneously abandons the most fundamental testimony that he can give to his children.

    • Foster Family Identity. Part of being the pastor of your family parish is making sure that your family has a vision; a plan for where it is going and who each of you–parents included–wants to be when you grow up.
    • Love and Serve Your Children. We all want obedience from our children. But as you learned in the introduction, true, Christian obedience (as opposed to fear-based, blind obedience) is best understood as a loving response to having been loved first.
  3. Oct 2, 2024 · He explained that to be a strong Catholic father, a man must know, love, and serve the Lord; know, love, and serve his wife and children; and teach his family to know, love, and serve the Lord. Men with this philosophy build strong families—something our world desperately needs today.
