Pickaxes are tools used to remove ("mine") blocks and furniture, normally converting them to item form. They cannot remove background walls (this requires a hammer instead), nor cut down trees (which requires an axe or chainsaw). They also double as basic melee weapons. Some of these Hardmode-tier pickaxes have drill counterparts, which as of 1.4 will mine faster than their pickaxe counterparts. New players spawn with a Copper Pickaxe; in Journey Mode with an Iron Pickaxe instead.

When evaluating the practical efficiency of a pickaxe, two things should be taken into consideration: the amount of hits required (from high pickaxe power); as well as the ticks per hit from low mining speed – see the respective pages for more details. The use time attribute can safely be disregarded, because it reflects the weapon swing/animation and is not related to the hits for mining.

There are currently 31 different pickaxes available in Terraria, 15 of which are Hardmode-exclusive.

    •Desktop 1.4.0.1:

•Reaver Shark can no longer mine Hellstone.

•Drills now mine faster than Pickaxes of the same tier, but have smaller range and do not benefit from mining speed bonuses.

•Desktop 1.3.0.1: Added four new pickaxes crafted using Luminite Bars and Lunar Fragments.

•Desktop 1.2.4: Added Reaver Shark pickaxe.

  4. The first thing players should do is cut down several trees (using your Copper Axe, aim for the lowest block), as wood is needed for many things, then build a Work Bench. From there, craft a Wooden Sword , and perhaps a Wooden Bow , (alongside some Wooden Arrows which players can soon upgrade to Flaming Arrows for extra damage) as a player's starting weapons are next to useless.

  5. Mar 21, 2023 · The Axe of Regrowth is the best axe you can hope to get your hands on in Terraria, gated behind being lucky enough to find the ever-elusive Staff of Regrowth– as a tree-cutting implement alone; this tool is able to match the Mythril Waraxe in speed and Post-Moon Lord Hamaxes in Power.
