  1. Sep 9, 2024 · Revelation 21:1 says, “Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.” There is no reason not to take this literally, that God’s new earth will not contain vast areas of salt water spanning the globe.

  2. Mar 23, 2017 · Revelation 21:1 says, "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more." Why would there be no more sea? This passage puzzled me for a long time, too. After all, most of us enjoy the sea -- boating, swimming, snorkeling, etc. The sea is beautiful, and majestic.

  3. Aug 25, 2007 · Revelation 21:1 reads, Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. Does this text teach that the new earth will not have large bodies of water (θαλάσσας)—no more lakes, seas, or oceans? Most think so.

  4. The "sea" was no more, does not refer to the literal sea, the language in the book of Revelation is symbolic, and in this verse "sea" refers to the masses of wicked mankind who are alienated and opposed to God.

  5. Jan 1, 2001 · There will be a river of water (22:1f) that flows through the New Jerusalem, but this is the only other source of water that is mentioned. This may be because there is some kind of relationship between God’s judgment on demon spirits and the oceans.

  6. Jan 26, 2024 · The statement “there was no longer any sea” in Revelation 21:1 has sparked much discussion and debate among Bible scholars over the years. At face value, it seems to imply that oceans and seas will not exist in the new heaven and new earth that God will create.

  8. Mar 18, 2010 · Even if Revelation 21:1 is a literal promise of “no more ocean,” this doesn’t necessarily mean the absence of large bodies of water. Revelation tells us a great river flows right through the capital city (22:1-2). How much more water will there be outside the city? Flowing rivers go somewhere.
