- The Normal Distribution Has No Skew
- Positive Skew

- Calculating Skewness
Why is it called negativeskew? Because the long "tail" is on the negative side of the peak. Some people say it is "skewed to the left" (the long tail is on the left hand side) The mean is also on the left of the peak.
A Normal Distribution is not skewed. It is perfectly symmetrical. And the Mean is exactly at the peak.
Andpositiveskew is when the long tail is on the positive side of the peak Some people say it is "skewed to the right". The mean is on the right of the peak value.
Here is some data extracted from a recent Census. As you can see it is positively skewed... in fact the tail continues way past $100,000
"Skewness" (the amount of skew) can be calculated, for example you could use the SKEW() function in Excel or OpenOffice Calc.
May 10, 2022 · The mean of a left-skewed distribution is almost always less than its median. Left skew: mean < median. For example, the mean zoology test score was 53.7, which is less than the median of 55. How to calculate skewness. There are several formulas to measure skewness. One of the simplest is Pearson’s median skewness.
Jun 24, 2019 · The mean is 7.7, the median is 7.5, and the mode is seven. Of the three statistics, the mean is the largest, while the mode is the smallest. Again, the mean reflects the skewing the most. Generally, if the distribution of data is skewed to the left, the mean is less than the median, which is often less than the mode.
If each term in a series of positive terms is less than the corresponding term in a series known to be convergent, then the given series is also convergent. Binomial expansion (1 + x)n = 1 +nx + n(n 1) 2! x2 + n(n 1)(n 2) 3! x3 + If n is a positive integer the series terminates and is valid for all x: the term in xr is nCrxr or n r where nC r n ...
