Oct 3, 2024 · The church is exhorted to encourage older men and women and to honor widows (1 Tim. 5:1–3). Jesus rebukes the Pharisees for failing to care well for their parents (Mark 7:9–13). According to the Bible, ageism is simply unacceptable. Aging Brings Wisdom. One reason to honor the aging is that aging brings wisdom.
4 Older women are to teach the young women to love their husbands and children. 5 They are to teach them to think before they act, to be pure, to be workers at home, to be kind, and to obey their own husbands.
Mar 24, 2021 · We knew that we needed to go deeper into: What does the Bible say about aging? What will it mean for us to think biblically as older women and to live covenantally as older women? So the first place we went was Psalm 92 where the psalmist tells us at the end,
- Change your perception about senior adults. In the past we thought of a senior woman as a little gray-haired lady in the rocking chair, knitting with a shawl wrapped around her shoulders.
- Enlist them on your team. If you are the women’s ministry leader, enlist a senior woman to serve on your team. She will be invaluable getting the word out to other seniors and praying for you.
- Know your target audience. The more specifically you can define your focus group, the more effective you will be in reaching them. You know certain characteristics about them, and these characteristics are important, but dig deeper!
- Find a common cause. Establish connections around common interests. Buzz words today are “connect” and “involve.” Know in advance that most senior women will not join you in August at a swim party at high noon, but if you plan a mission trip or project, call on them!

When the Bible says that the older should teach the younger—that older men and women should be teaching younger men and women (Titus 2:1–8)—I’d say that those men who don’t think they have anything to offer are typically the men I want to learn from.
