One is a wish or desire, the other is a certainty or guarantee. Let me use a verse from Scripture to illustrate the point.

    • 1 Peter 2:9. 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
    • Acts 2:23. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
    • Acts 13:36. 36 “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed. Read Chapter All Versions.
    • Colossians 1:16. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
    • Proverbs 19:21. “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” When you can no longer control what happens and the things of this world, you will start to realize that there is something much greater out there than your plans.
    • Proverbs 20:24 NIV. “A person’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand their own way?” Ultimately, it is God who leads the way. The plans of man according to his or her own desires may not be in line with the scriptures.
