  1. The Holy Ghost conveys the gifts of the Spirit to the children of God (see 1 Corinthians 12:1–11; Moroni 10:9–17; D&C 46:13–26). The Holy Ghost brings to our remembrance truths that we have been taught earlier (see John 14:26). The Holy Ghost reproves the world for sin (see John 16:8; D&C 121:43).

  2. The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Godhead. He is a personage of spirit, without a body of flesh and bones. He is often referred to as the Spirit, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of the Lord, or the Comforter.

  3. Holy Ghost. The third member of the Godhead and a personage of Spirit, not possessing a body of flesh and bones (D&C 130:22). The Holy Ghost has been manifest in every dispensation of the gospel since the beginning, being first made known to Adam (1 Ne. 10:17–22; Moses 6:51–68).

    • The Holy Ghost is a male spirit personage, a spirit son of God the Father. In a sermon delivered in 1857, President Heber C. Kimball stated: “The Holy Ghost is a man; he is one of the sons of our Father and our God; and he is that man that stood next to Jesus Christ, just as I stand by Brother Brigham.”
    • He has form, shape, and occupies space. For a time during his grand panoramic vision, Nephi was tutored by the Spirit. He had seen the tree of life and desired to know what it represented, “for I spake unto him as a man speaketh; for I beheld that he was in the form of a man; yet nevertheless I knew that it was the Spirit of the Lord; and he spake unto me as a man speaketh with another” (1 Nephi 11:11).
    • As a member of the Godhead, the Holy Ghost possesses all attributes, qualities, and divine characteristics in perfection. Indeed, he is God (Acts 5:3–4).
    • His person must not be confused with his powers and influence. Once again from Elder Talmage: “Much of the confusion existing in human conceptions concerning the nature of the Holy Ghost arises from the common failure to segregate His person and powers.

    • How Do We Keep The Holy Ghost with Us?

The scriptures refer to Him as the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, or the Spirit of truth. He is a member of the Godhead and one with the Father and the Son. In D&C 130:22 we learn that “The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones but is a personage of Spirit.” Jesus ...

    The Holy Ghost confirms truth

The Holy Ghost not only bears witness to the divinity of the Father and the Son, He also bears witness to truth, particularly to gospel truths. Moroni 5:10 says “By the power of the Holy Ghost ye may knowthe truth of all things”. President Brigham Young stated: “The Holy Ghost opens the vision of the mind, unlocks the treasures of wisdom, and they begin to understand the things of God. They comprehend themselves and the great object of their existence.” President Eyring stated, “The companion...

The Holy Ghost testifies of God and Jesus Christ

Marion G. Romney stated, “Every person who knows or has ever known that Jesus is the Christreceived that witness from the Holy Ghost.” I was not raised in the church, but all of my friends growing up were. My friend’s ward had a Super Saturday and she invited me. We went roller skating, attended a class that taught us how to check the oil and tire pressure on a car, and there was a dance that night. I spent that night at my friend’s house and went to church with her family the next day. I att...

The Holy Ghost is a Comforter

I’ve been friends with Kara since high school. One summer, Kara was sending her two oldest sons to Boy Scout camp in the Olympic Mountains. This was the first year her second son was old enough to go. The boys were very excited to go together with their dad who had recently been called as Scoutmaster. After breakfast, the boys got permission to go with their two-by-two partners to explore the steep mountainside near the lake. Kara’s sons and their friends walked towards the other side of the...

Now that we know what He does, how do we keep the Holy Ghost with us? I searched on LDS.org and the same scripture kept coming up, D&C 20:77, explaining to have the Spirit sent to us, we must “always remember the Savior and keep his commandments.” President Eyring said, “We have the priceless promise of the Holy Ghost as a companion, and we also ha...

  4. The Holy Ghost is a Spirit Man, Probably a Son of Heavenly Father. Very little on the Holy Ghost has been canonized. D&C 130:22 (added to the D&C in 1867) is our best source; it tells us that the Holy Ghost is a spirit so that He can “dwell in us,” but even that verse has been modified from how it was originally written by Joseph Smith:

  6. The Holy Ghost is often also called the Holy Spirit or the Spirit of the Lord. Galatians 5:22–23 teaches that “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, [and] temperance.”
