Welcome to IGN’s guide for Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. This Walkthrough will seek to guide you through the dangerous land of Karnaca as Billie Lurk - with an emphasis on non lethal and stealth gameplay. This guide will also point you towards any available collectibles that include Bonecharms and Paintings.
In Mission 2 - Follow the Ink, you’ll be approached by the Outsider, who will make your dreams a reality by taking your arm and eye, and infusing you with certain powers. Unlike other protagonists in Dishonored, these powers are all activated immediately - but cannot be upgraded with Runes. However, your new arm gives you the power to slowly replenish the gauge needed to use these powers. Take a moment to look at your new abilities - they are very different than what you’re used to.
Find the Knife
Video Guide Part 1
Head outside your room to meet with Daud. He’s got a plan to take down the Outsider, and it involves finding the knife that made him what he is. Tracking it down is tricking, and the first place to look is where the Eyeless gang gets their tattoos. Check the map and documents to figure out where you’re going, then prepare to leave.
Before heading out, head into the kitchen where the picture of Billie and Stilton is - but your new eye shows you a vision from the void of an alternate lifetime. Your new eye might see more of these fractures in the void - so be sure to keep a lookout.
When you’re ready to leave, exit the ship and head back to the carriage station - which will take you to a new area.
Arriving in this new area, you’ll find there’s a lot to explore, and it's best to take this place bit by bit. To start, become familiar with your new powers, especially Displace as means of getting across gaps, and Foresight to leave your body behind and explore ahead while time is stopped. You can even combine these powers to set up a point to displace to.
Since the gate ahead is closed, look right to find a balcony to displace to, then again over to the road where a group of performers are playing. Head up the steps and you’ll find yourself right in front of the Red Camellia. However, the place is closed for the day, so you need to find a way in. If you need to recon, try using Foresight and flying through the open grate on the left. To find a way inside, look to the right of the front entrance and go past a painter into an alley leading to a gate. Jump over the gate using the pipes, but watch for sleeping Wolfhounds on the other side.
Inside the parlor, search the shelves for items and a locked door leading out to the right - but be wary entering the front desk. A lone maid is sweeping the place, so sneak up behind her and knock her out to get the Red Camellia Key to the front door.
Be sure to look around the countertops and under the sinks for items to steal, but the real goal is in the back room. Head down the hall and take a left into the tattoo parlor. Here you can find drawings of both the Eyeless Motif, and the Cultist’s Blessing that signifies one of the cult leaders. Remember this motif well, as it can come in handy if using Semblance in certain situations.
Since you’re likely to be infiltrating these cultists, take the time to grab the Tattoo Machine by the chair to give yourself the insignia, as it will help fool some of the cultists.
Now head into the far back room and look for the Red Camellia Appointment Book. Inside you can find the names of several cult leaders who got the Cultist’s Blessing tattoo: Ivan Jacobi, Shan Yun, and a mysterious third person named D.M. It’s possible that these people may have more info about the knife you seek, and so we have two new targets.
Video Guide Part 2
Leave the beauty parlor behind and exit via the front doors. If no one is looking, smash the display windows on either side and help yourself to some loot. Our first target is Ivan Jacobi the city administrator, but we’ll be sure to find some interesting items along the way.
From the Red Camellia, look to the right to find a door to a dentist’s office. Once inside the building, head all the way up to the top to explore the office to find loot stashed around, and a rooftop outside that looks down on the plaza.
Back outside, cross the fountain to the other side, and be sure to look left at the locked gate that blocked you at the start of this area. To one side, you can see another Hollow of the void just above a map of the area you should take note of.
Next to the map, you can find the residence of Eolina Rey, owner of the Red Camellia. Enter through the front door, and head up the stairs into her residence. She’s busy listening to the audiograph of Shan Yun, one of our targets, so she won’t notice if you sneak up and knock her out. Be sure to check the desk nearby, and you’ll find a note about a secret knock to get into Shan Yun’s residence. A very useful thing to have.
Out in the plaza, the path to the left leads through a checkpoint manned by two guards towards Shan Yu’s home, but we’re going along the right instead, keeping out of the way of the guards line of sight. If you’re having trouble, you can always use Semblance on a civilian to just walk down the road - or use the rooftops of the Doctor’s Office to get down the other side safely.
Leave the building and head left down the road to find another alley leading to this plaza. Unfortunately, Ivan isn’t completely stupid, and has a large group of the City Watch protecting him as he prepares his speech. However, as you listen in, you’ll find that there’s a trapdoor on the stage that someone below has closed up. It would be shame if someone were to use it on him.
First thing’s first though - use Foresight to zoom around the plaza and mark all the guard targets to know their positions. There are two ways into the underground area, but we have another task first.
As for getting under the platform, you can find a stairway to the left of the stage going down that is lightly guarded if you time it right - or you can hop between balconies to enter a large apartment building opposite the stage. In here you can head down to the bottom floor to unlock a door to the main road, or you can head into a wine cellar to spot a broken wall leading the passage under the stage.
Slipping into the underground passage, there’s a guard on a chair watching the room, so you’ll have to come at him from the side or hit him with a voltaic bolt, then stash the body. Now you can flip the switch and send Ivan crashing down at your feet, and steal his key - and his face too if you want. This can help your escape if you want to walk out the stairs, otherwise just climb back through the hole and be on your way.
Video Guide Part 3
Back at his office, unlock the front door and head on in. It’s a nice place, but there’s not much to see - other than a curious contraption on his mantle, and the assorted loot on his desk. You can even spy a drawing of the Twin Bladed Knife next to his desk, and a note with a key confirms that both he and Shan Yun have keys that must be used to get to the knife in the bank vault.
Before you go, look for a note under his desk about a snooping journalist at the Eyeless hideout known as the Spector Club. This journalist is looking for hard evidence of Ivan kidnapping and killing people, but where to find some? If you look behind you, there’s a painting of an owl with smudge marks on the side. Push it aside to find a safe that has a vial of the murder victim’s blood.
We’ll have to pay this journalist a visit later.
With Ivan’s key in hand, leave his office behind and slink up the stairs to the right. You can also head back to the main courtyard where the Red Camellia was, but we have some business to attend to along this route.
Past the stairs, there are three guards on the other side of the gate - so instead look for a balcony above that leads through a small room full of mounted animal heads to the other side, where you can look down on the courtyard below. To the right is the plaza with the bank, and the journalist’s residence, while going left heads to Shan Yu’s home. In order to get around, you can either use Displace on the balconies and lamp posts to get over the gate, or look for a worker in the far left alley and steal his face for a bit.
Head across to the entrance to the bank and sneak left into the home of the journalist. As you head up the stairs, you’ll pass two Eyeless who apparently just had a nice “chat” with the poor journalist. Enter the residence and speak with the man, and give him the blood vial. He’ll reward you with the contents of his safe and password, and you can help yourself to the 88 coins worth of treasure inside.
Leave his office from the balcony, and turn your attention to the bank in the far left. Though your job isn’t to rob the place just yet, you do have a contract you can take on - if you don’t mind doing some lethal work. There’s also a bunch of coins in the fountain if you need the cash - just don’t get caught.
Now that you’re near Shan Yun’s house, there’s one more place to investigate before we infiltrate his home. Look for an alley to the left of the gate you entered from the bank district to find a taxidermy shop. The rats outside seem to hint that there’s something locked in the basement - alive.
Enter the shop and ignore the owner, heading straight for the back where the door to the basement is locked. Grab a chloroform bottle in the side room and chuck it at the owner to knock her out and steal her key. Head downstairs carefully - the stairway is rigged with an incendiary trap. Further down, you’ll find that the woman has been breeding Bloodflies in a chamber, and using captured people as hosts for their nests - including a man behind bars, next to a sealed area full of the bloodflies and their nests.
Rescue the man by opening the door, and he’ll tell you that she keeps a key to the storage area with the blood amber she’s collected over near the table where the dead body is. After he’s fled, you can grab the nearby key and help yourself to the loot. You can also open the hatch to the bloodflies and fire an incendiary arrow into the nest to kill them - but there’s not blood amber to be found here. Instead, dump the two dead bodies in the furnace and burn them, and you’ll find some in the ashes.
