Jesus watches as wealthy people contribute large sums of money to the temple treasury, but it is the widow who gives only two small coins, worth a fraction of a penny, that receives Jesus’ praise.
Two mites - The word translated "mite" denotes a small coin made of brass - the smallest in use among the Jews. The precise value cannot now be easily estimated.
