Uec is currently only usable on the voyager direct page, and currently only bought. This balance will not go away until it goes "live" and it will become your starting funds at that point. aUeC is what you currently earn in game. You can use it to purchase fps gear, armor, ship repairs, ammo, and fuel.
UEC that is part of pledge packages is not attributed to the website UEC Balance until the game has gone live. This means that these credits will not be factored in when calculating your starting aUEC balance during test phases.

I wouldn't be surprised if we find the in 'verse name for UEC is 'Credits' (seems pretty obvious, right? :D) Edit: Just realised - what's missing is actually the currency symbol (at least, I don't recall seeing a symbol?). E.g. $ or £, etc.
