10 years ago... things have changed a lot. If you think the current game industry is much different than the rest of the Vancouver tech industry you're foolin yourself. The biggest rub is still that so many people want to work with games that they are willing to accept lower salaries, so the game industry in Vancouver tends to pay less than the rest of tech - but that's the same everywhere.

Tech jobs in Vancouver (actually, in Canada overall) pay terribly. For the same job, one can easily make 2-3x the salary by relocating to the Bay Area. Health care is also not an issue as all the FAANG companies have excellent insurance and in some cases, on site clinics.
