  1. Dec 30, 2023 · Opening a tape image with a filename ending in .data.cas will automatically look for an .audio.ogg file to merge with the data track. These can either be stored as loose files or they can be thrown together into a .zip file, in which case the emulator will automatically pull both files from the .zip archive.

Full, cycle-exact emulation of all documented hardware features.
Best-in-class emulation accuracy of undocumented hardware behavior, including undocumented 6502 instructions, precise DMA timing, mid-screen register changes, hardware bugs, and cycle-precise timer...
Support for most popular 8-bit image file formats: ATR, ATX, ATZ, DCM, XFD, PRO, ARC, BAS, ROM, BIN, A52, CAS, SAP.

Altirra is designed with emulation quality in mind, sometimes over speed and polish. It's designed as a system emulator and debugger instead of a games machine, so there is some setup involved. There is a README file in the archive, but here are some quick tips: First: Software.you need some actual 8-bit Atari (not Atari ST!) software to run. If yo...

Altirra has relatively few system requirements: 1. Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11 or later, either 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64 or ARM64). (Windows RT not supported) 2. Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64 CPU or better (SSE2 required), or Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or newer (ARM64 version). 3. Graphics card supporting DirectX 9.0 with pixel shader 2.0 or later...

Altirra is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL), version 2. Binaries, i.e. stuff you can run (all local downloads): Source code (i.e. stuff programmers can modify and compile). This includes the source code to AltirraOS, Altirra BASIC, and all of the utilities on the Additions disk.

Acid800 is a test suite designed to stress 8-bit Atari emulators. It tests a wide variety of program-visible hardware behaviors and reports any deviations from actual hardware behavior, such as missing features or incorrect timing. Acid800 can be run either as a full suite or as standalone tests, with symbols and source included. Also included are ...

    Hardware reference manual

This is a document describing all of the interesting behavior I've discovered in the Atari 8-bit hardware.

    BASIC reference manual

This is the manual for Altirra BASIC, the BASIC interpreter embedded within the emulator.

  2. Nov 14, 2021 · Disk: Atari 815 emulation, 8" disk geometry support, Disk Explorer can now access files in Indus CP/M images, many full disk drive emulation fixes. Display: Palette solver, monochrome mode, HDR display support, ANTIC fixes. Sound: Improved audio filtering, automatic output switching when using WASAPI output, POKEY fixes.

  3. Based on this practical association between the emulator support and what binary image formats and extensions are really viable, I offer this list, which comes directly from Altirra documentation. Support for most popular 8-bit image file formats: ATR, ATX, ATZ, DCM, XFD, PRO, ARC, BAS, ROM, BIN, A52, CAS, SAP. Additionally, Altirra ...

  4. Sep 27, 2011 · There are a couple of known issues with Altirra tape support: it does not yet support turbo encoding (non-FSK), and it will not read a .CAS file that has baud rates too high for regular FSK encoding. You can encode 6000 baud sectors in a CAS file even though a regular tape drive cannot support it (you need to bypass the FSK filters).

  5. While compatible, Altirra BASIC is a reimplementation from scratch – it does not share any code with and is not based on Atari BASIC. Unlike the latter, Altirra BASIC is freely distributable in both source and object code form. Starting Altirra BASIC Altirra BASIC comes in two forms, an 8KB cartridge ROM image (atbasic.bin) and a DOS executable
