This increase comes in the wake of a decline in 2020, when retail sales experienced its largest drop since the 2009 global financial crisis. In volume terms, retail sales increased 8.4% in 2021.

Due to the steep declines in Q2 however, the underlying 12 month trend (green line in the chart) is still in negative territory.
