Collaborations (referred to as Collabs by fans) are official crossovers of other media outside of the Fortnite brand being introduced into the game. The first official Collaboration occurred in the Search for Survivors event in Fortnite: Save the World, and the first Collaboration in Battle Royale was in Season 4.

A collaboration is classified by the official crossover of external media into Fortnite. References to other media, or internal media created by Epic Games (such as the Infinity Blade) are not collaborations. Other games owned but not developed by Epic Games (Rocket League and Fall Guys) are considered collaborations. Collaborations are mainly in the form of Cosmetic Items, but sometimes are included as Weaponry, Limited Time Game Modes or even entire Seasons. So far, Collaborations have existed as:

•Item Shop cosmetic items (Outfits, Wraps, Back Blings, Gliders, Pickaxes, Lobby Tracks, Emotes, Loading Screens, etc.)

•Exclusive Bundles paidfor with real money.

•Cosmetic Items included in the Fortnite Crew subscription.

•Real life people in the form of Icon Series cosmetics.

    •Real life products and merchandise.

•Brandon Sanderson (author of the Mistborn series) commented on the Mistborn subreddit that it takes from 5 to 6 months for a collaboration to be made; noting that it took 5 for the Cosmere Castaway Set to be released.

•Some collaborations may take longer, though, such as the PAC-MAN Set and the GALAXIAN Emote, which had their IDs reserved as early as August 2021, but would only have been released in June of the following year; 10 months later.

•The It: Chapter Two easter egg was never officially confirmed as a collaboration, as is possibly not one due to its lack of any Cosmetic Items, Limited Time Modes, Weaponry, or other content beyond the easter egg itself. As such, it is not verifiable as a collaboration, as every other has had extended content present.

•Furthermore, information whether there was an extra amount of content scheduled for release is scarce, and cannot be verified either.

•Bill Skarsgård's laughs for Pennywise, which were used once a balloon was popped, were ripped directly from the first film without permission.

•Since Chapter 3: Season 3, over half of Cosmetic Items are collaborations.

  7. All these collabs make me think that, slowly, Fortnite is losing its identity in favor of attracting more players (and money) because "X thing I recognize is in Fortnite!" Fortnite already switched identities when BR became insanely popular, switching from a PvE tower defense game to a BR game with unique building mechanics
