Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a fantasy novel written by the British author J. K. Rowling. It is the third instalment in the Harry Potter series. The novel follows Harry Potter, a young wizard, in his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Probably the most important event is that Harry has a new ally: Sirius Black, his dogfather—er—godfather. And although they're not related by blood, Sirius is the closest thing Harry has to a family member besides the pukesome Dursleys. Sirius has the potential to be the father that Harry never had.
Harry leaves the Dursley's house and is picked up by the Knight Bus, but only after an alarming sighting of a large, black dog. The Knight Bus drops Harry off at Diagon Alley, where he is greeted by Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic. He rents a room and awaits the start of school.
