Damn - this makes me sad. Have had a wonderful time on Kongregate since they first opened. So much fun to be had, and especially back in the earlier days I actually made a lot of friends there. Got to meet a bunch of the staff at PAX in Seattle way back when, and even had a little stint as a chat mod on the site.
All the new games came from indie devs and Kongregate pulled in the ad revenue. Recently they have changed over to developing more of their own games so that obviously changes things. But keeping the hosting of others games going is a minimal usage of resources.

Jul 2, 2020 · From July 22nd, Kongregate will also start rolling back social features. Chat rooms not tied to specific games - and all but 20 of those that are - will be closed down. "Non-gaming" forums are being wiped from the website, while most others are being moved to a "read-only" state, to be only updated for announcements by admins.
