is a franchise of fantasy video games that started with the game Monster Hunter for PlayStation 2. The series is developed and published by Capcom. As the title suggests, the player takes the role of a hunter in a fantasy environment and completes quests by hunting out specific kinds of monsters to kill or capture.
It is a rather strong, albeit not particularly fast, verse. The hunters are easily superhumans in statistics and the weapons can have abilities like Fire Manipulation, Electricity Manipulation, Paralysis and Sleep Inducement, Shockwave Generation, etc.
However, the monsters are the main attraction; 95% of them have skin more durable than any real-world metal, many can easily destroy large rock formations and reshape their environment by sheer strength alone, and elementally focused specimens can survive in extreme conditions like volcanoes and the deep ocean. At the higher end, they can even control the weather over vast stretches of land or casually cause tsunamis and massive earthquakes.
Most typical monsters sit around low Tier 8, but rare species, hardcore variants, and Elder Dragons broach Tier 6. As hunters are able to face all of these beasts with their strength and weaponry, they are ranked as such.
The characters of the verse have more diverse powers than initially apparent. Malfestio has the ability to atomize matter, various Elder Dragons are said to be capable of attacking the mind, hunters are capable of passively nullifying abilities, Alatreon is rumored as capable of cutting space and time, Dire Miralis is capable of regenerating from its heart alone and to kill by sight, and Fatalis is capable of possessing those who kill it and more.
