Oct 29, 2023 · The Southwest Museum is an afterthought for them. The Southwest Museum was the oldest museum in the city, dating back to the 1900s. In 2003, it was acquired by the Autry in order to secure its prestigious collection of archaeological artifacts.
It was home to one of the world’s finest collections of Native American artifacts and stood as a cultural focal point in northeast Los Angeles for more than seventy-five years. The museum building is a designated Historic-Cultural Monument and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
