On Jan. 31, following a series of storms and heavy rainfall, parts of the trail flooded around the 500-metre mark.   5. Smuggler's Cove Provincial Park. Named for its popularity with 19th-century pirates, this park is today frequented by picnickers. A hundred wooden stairs take you down to a rocky beach and a good cave for hiding treasure. There are picnic sites containing barbecue pits at the top of the stairs, with a view across St Mary's Bay to Brier Island.

  6. Halfmoon Bay is about 10 minutes northwest of Sechelt and much of it can be reached by the uniquely named Redrooffs Rd. There are several parks including four provincial parks - Sargeant Bay, Smuggler's Cove and Simson and Buccaneer Bay on Thormanby Island (which is considered part of Halfmoon Bay) and two Regional District Parks - Coopers Green and Connor Park.

  8. Jun 2019 • Solo. This short hiking trail is a good 60-90 minute family activity in the Halfmoon Bay Area. The information board at the trailhead states that the trail is about 2 km long, but I have feeling that’s only measured one way - it felt longer. Once you get to Smuggler Cove itself, two trails branch off.
