Feb 22, 2018 · The Thousand-Year Reign of Christ Revelation 20:1-6. The concept of the Millennium, a thousand-year period of Christ’s reign, is introduced in Revelation 20:1-6. After the second coming of Christ, Satan is bound and cast into the bottomless pit, where he is confined for a thousand years on earth.
After that thousand-year reign of Christ, there will be a final rebellion, and then will come what scholars call the “eternal state,” which is heaven. Heaven will be in a new place —what the Bible calls the new heaven and the new earth—and it will occur after the Millennium, not at the same time as the Millennium.
The events to happen after the thousand-year reign of Christ on the earth are described in Revelation 20:5 through to the end of the book of Revelation. Revelation 20:5 shows that the second resurrection will occur after the Millennium: “But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished…”

The main purpose of Jesus’ 1,000-year reign is to fulfill the prophecies given to Israel and the promises made to Jesus, the nations, and the whole earth.
