Zamboanga Hermosa, also known locally as Fiesta Pilar, is one of Zamboanga City’s most important festivals. It honors the city’s patron saint, the Nuestra Señora de la Virgen del Pilar whose image is enshrned in the equally historic and venerated Fort Pilar.
The festival is held in honor of the miraculous image of Our Lady of the Pillar (Spanish and Chavacano: Nuestra Señora del Pilar), the patroness of Batangas City which is held in every October 12. It is also the patroness of Zaragoza in Spain, the sister city of Zamboanga in Philippines. [4]
The Zamboanga Hermosa Festival or Fiesta Pilar is an annual celebration in honor of the patroness of the City of Zamboanga—Our Lady of the Pillar. The Zamboangueños are known for their fervent devotion to Our Lady of the Pillar or better known to them as “Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar”.
The Feast of Our Lady of the Pillar and the Pontifical Mass are held on October 12. Major activities include the trade fair called Cosechas de Zamboanga, talent contests, various competitions, fun run, exhibits, beauty pageant (Miss Zamboanga), and parade.
