I also have Google Photos and it does exactly what a CLOUD is supposed to do, syncs any picture or video you have on your phone, saves it, and KEEPS it there, allowing you to delete it from your actual device to save space. iCloud is just a big scam and I guarantee you if I ask an Apple employee what the purpose of iCloud is they wouldn’t even be able to give a logical response.

When you delete a photo or video from Photos on iCloud.com, it’s also deleted from all your devices that have iCloud Photos turned on. If you change your mind, you have 30 days to recover it before it’s permanently deleted.
1.In Photos on iCloud.com, select the photos or videos you want to delete, or double-click a single photo or video.
2.Click , then click Delete.
Deleted photos and videos are moved to the Recently Deleted album.
3.To permanently delete photos or videos before they’re automatically deleted, go to the Recently Deleted album, select the items you want to delete, then click Delete.

Select the Delete (trash can) icon to delete the selected photos. The photos will be deleted from iCloud.
