   17) How many times may I duplicate a course at SFU? You may have up to 5 duplicate courses on your SFU transcript, with any one course only being allowed to be duplicated once. Only the better grade is counted into your CGPA at SFU. The lower graded course is still on your transcript, but the grade is not counted.

   Why do people take less courses at SFU?

   • Others tend to take less courses because they work part-time or they just couldn't get into the courses they needed/wanted. SFU isn't really a "live-on campus" university (or at least wasn't when I went. Not compared to something like UBC).

   Should I take 5 years instead of 4 years at SFU?

   • So obviously taking 5 years instead of 4 is abnormal. I can't imagine SFU is tougher than all the high ranked schools in Ontario like Waterloo, Toronto, McMaster etc. I was putting in 12 hours days on campus in both my 4A and 4B terms.

   • Compared to schools I have studied at internationally, SFU is less strict with regards to what your register in, but also seems to be a less serious school overall and seems to make/break its rules as it pleases.

   So basically the year is equally cut into 3 by SFU. If you do 3 semesters a year, you only have 2 weeks break in between. If you take a summer break, you will be enjoying 4 months break but you have to live in hell in the other 2 semesters or become 6-year person like you said. This might be the reason.
