I mean, that's just a really basic explanation, and obviously you begin to pick up on a lot more of the subtler nuances as you listen to Goth music, but that basic interaction is Kind of what defines the "Goth Sound" for a lot of people, and probably one of the easiest things to pick up on when you're first getting into the music, much like chugging guitars are very much a staple of metal music.
My favourite Gothic VIDEOS ever. Not the best songs. Not even all goth bands. Official music videos that I feel bear strong cinematic hallmarks of The Gothic and/or influenced Gothic style. This playlist is meant to be WATCHED. Heavily weighted to the 1980s. Because let's face it, they were the best. Not including Gothic Metal because that's an entirely other world. Enjoy!
It's based on instrumental - goth tends to have but isn't usually limited to heavy, prominent lead bass; jangly, flanging, atmospheric and minimalist guitars; reverb; romantic, tongue-in-cheek and introspective lyrics; baritone or overly high pitched vocals; repetitive post punk 4/4 drum beat, drum machine or tribal drums and sinister 80s keyboards in minor key.
